It has been disclosed that Teddy, originally a member of hip-hop group 1TYM and now an active producer, rejected an offer to work with Lady Gaga, a pop-singer who is gaining the most popularity in the United States today.
Yang Hyun Suk, the president of YG Entertainment in which Teddy and 2NE1 are affiliated with, revealed, “A few months ago, Teddy and I attended a meeting with Jimmy Iovine, the representative of Interscope,” and, “After listening to songs that Teddy produced, Iovine asked if Teddy could produce a song for Lady Gaga.”
Interscope, composed of Lady Gaga as well as Black Eyed Peas, Dr. Dre, Eminem, Limp Bizkit, and a great number of popular artists, is the biggest entertainment company in the United States.
Additionally, Yang Hyun Suk said, “However, at that time Teddy could only reject the offer to work with Lady Gaga because he was working on 2NE1’s debut album,” and “Because he rejected all outside offers and focused more on 2NE1’s album, we could see good results.”
Teddy produced various hit songs such as TaeYang’s ‘Look at Only Me,’ Uhm JungHwa’s ‘Disco,’ and Big Bang’s ‘Sunset Glow’ last year and ‘Lollipop,’ which swept up all 1st places on music charts without any special broadcast activities, recently. His skills have surfaced once again with 2NE1’s debut song, ‘Fire,’ which he produced and is gathering attention by taking 1st places on music ranks

2NE1과 원타임 소속사 YG엔터테인먼트의 실질적 수장인 양현석은 25일 머니투데이 스타뉴스에 “수개월 전 미국 인터스코프 대표 지미 아이빈을 만나는 자리에 테디가 동행했다”며 “당시 테디가 작업한 곡들을 접한 테디에게 지미 아이빈이 레이디가가의 곡을 작업해줄 것을 요청했다”고 밝혔다.
인터스코프는 미국에서 현재 가장 인기 있는 가수인 레이디가가를 비롯해 블랙아이드피스, 닥터 드레, 에미넴, 림프비즈킷 등 다수의 유명 가수가 소속된 미국 최대 연예 기획사다.
이어 양현석은 “하지만 당시 테디는 2NE1의 데뷔 음반 작업 때문에 레이디가가와 작업을 거절할 수밖에 없었다”며 “이렇듯 외부 작업을 모두 거절하고 2NE1 음반에 더 매진한 결과 좋은 결과물을 얻을 수 있었다”며 만족스러워했다.
테디는 지난해 태양의 ‘나만 바라봐’, 엄정화의 ‘디스코’, 빅뱅의 ‘붉은 노을’ 등을 프로듀싱 했으며 최근 특별한 방송활동 없이 음원 차트 1위를 휩쓴 ‘롤리팝’ 등 다양한 히트곡을 낸 프로듀서다. 이번에 프로듀싱한 2NE1의 데뷔곡 ‘파이어(Fire)’가 온라인 음원순위 1위를 차지하고 화제를 모으면서 그의 실력을 다시 한 번 입증했다.

you know what I really respect Teddy for his decision. this really show what kind of person he is. He rather work and help- rookies who are starting out new in the entertainment business than in trying to get famous off of an artist from America. He was really deticated to 2NE1. i love and respect him for that.

Angela, you are right on everything. In my opinion, it’s more like Lady gaga’s lost not Teddy’s!
Even if Teddy did write her a song, I don’t think it’ll be her style anyways, plus Teddy’s shit would be played on the radio non-stop.
I’m dissapointed though with Se7en’s US actvities because I really like the song “Money can’t buy me love” (the one Teddy produced), I pretty much prefer it over the song girls.
And you guys know what makes me very dissapointed and upset? Nothing is happening. The only places he does have activities going on is within CA. I don’t think he knows that he has fans all over the states and aren’t Korean/Asians! Who ever is managing him should be shot!

Why didn’t YG use this “connection” he has with Interscope to help Se7en and get him sign to the label? He should have jump on it immediately when Lovine was supposedly interested in CL and 2ne1.

He has major success in Korea BUT only in Korea. Which means he’ll most likely only work with Korean artist within his own record company.
Team up with Gaga BUT with other major producers and companies. he could have brand himself such as Jay-z, P.Diddy, and Timbaland has done.
I mean YG allow se7en release to the states and he has much of a chance than any artist from Asia to fail but he took the risk. I hear and find Japanese artist all the time but Korean artist are like ghost to the states. they only exist if you care to know who they are. this was Teddy chance to open door not only to himself but to other Korean artist. wow! i really salute to him! but if your all look at the big picture, if teddy DID work with lady gaga, he would be a world re-knowned producer…but i’m glad he didn’t cos i absolutly fvcking hate lady gaga..she is such a hooker!!! I prefer him to work with 2ne1.i just love them…

i agree with the se7en part though. If YG was close to Iovine, it would have been a million times better to have se7en work with him instead of RQM who’s getting no where.
I’m glad he turned down the offer. It shows how much he cares for the rookies in his company and what he really loves: music. Teaming up with Lady Gaga wouldn’t exactly mean making a name for himself in the US. He would feature, and then what? When people search for his music, they’d find Korean songs. They wouldn’t be impressed. Besides, it’s not like Lady Gaga has any actual GOOD songs anyway. If he did work with her and wrote the song as well, that would probably be the only listen-worthy song on her album. Plus, the song would most likely only feature on her album, not be a title song. If Teddy wants to make it big in the US, then he will do it the way he wants, when he wants. And right now, it looks like he’d rather help out his maknaes.

Hmm. I’m hot and cold on this. I mean it really would boost Teddy but his dedication is truly incredible. but his dedication has been proven on many occasions.
Saying that producing a track for Lady Gaga would do nothing for him is a very blind response. Regardless that’s credit. Whether it’s a featured and blown up on the radio, web etc…that’s still an opportunity to work with an international artist (whom is doing incredibly well whether you like her or not).
I don’t think it was a business smart move but it was his decision. turning down an offer from a popular American celeb…iffy on this one. I’m not really even focusing on him turning Lady Gaga’s offer down but turning down the offer to make some ties with those that PRODUCE with her and labeles associstaed with her.
Internationally this is a mistake imo. Will Teddy have the opportunity to work with 2NE1 again? Absolutely. So why not take the once in a lifetime opportunity?
Producers and labels obviously notice him…which says SO MUCH about his immense talent. However, rejecting this offer might make others interested in him think twice.
